Hey, guys, do you have siblings? Imagine living in a room packed wall to wall, with thousands of their sisters, and you have an idea of what it feels to be a bee. A hive of bees working during the summer can be filled with thousands of bees and if you look closely (with the help of a trained apiarist, of course!) It could be three different types of bees – as is discoveries that make science fun! Â
The only male bees in the hive drones are called, but they are big and fat, can not bite, and must be fed, cleaned and cared for by her sisters. There are only few of them in the hive and its sole function is to mate with the new queens. This may seem like a nice life easier, but in winter, her sisters and chased them out of the hive to freeze. Ouch! Â
There are two types of female bees. The largest bee in the hive is the queen, and there is only one. It is great, because your body is full of eggs, the queen is the mother of the hive. In a summer day, a queen can lay up to 2,000 eggs.Â

A worker bee begins life as a small egg. The egg hatches into a white worm, like a small worm or caterpillar, and for the next seven days or less, all the larvae of bees only grow and eat.
