Polyphagia in cats is often associated with older cats who suffer both physiological and psychological changes as they age. It is not uncommon for older cats, become voracious with age, or vice versa, which become extremely careful what they eat.

There are also several conditions which may cause cats eat more, but in most cases the exact cause is not really known as it is often too late to determine the real cause.

Cats of all ages are at risk by the owners of what is known as ad libitum feeding practices of your cat when it allows an unlimited amount of food whenever they want. This is most common food is made to dry food as soon as the offer on the set is empty, it recharges automatically.

Cats have not resolved the natural feeding habits begin to eat more. A Once started, it is difficult for them to stop. The same is true, because they can produce an expectation on the part of your cat. There nothing wrong with the question, but if it is not regulated, most cats expect more.

Cat Food is very acceptable "Should certainly be more limited than your cat can become almost obsessed, if not controlled properly. Poor feeding practices are the main cause of various diseases Polyphagia.

Endocrine or hormonal disorders:

There are three very specific endocrine disorders can cause polyphagia, diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism and Cushing's disease.

There are two forms of diabetes mellitus type I and type II, and both forms are extremely dangerous because the cat suddenly begins to overeat because they can breakdown of calories into energy. Not much they eat and lose weight.

Therefore, your cat begins to detail its own fat for energy. An estimated 75 percent of cats who develop diabetes mellitus type I contract that is where cells are formed the pancreas that produce insulin have been destroyed energy. As a result, lose weight quickly. Cats with this type needs an immediate supply insulin to survive.

Diabetes Type II affects 25 per cent of cats with the disease and although the cells can still produce insulin, blood sugar is extremely high. With this form of the disease can not survive without additional insulin, but it is very important to control your weight, your appetite increases dramatically.

Hyperthyroidism is the most common disease of the endocrine system and more than 90 percent of cats lose weight with this disease, despite an increased appetite. This disease is caused by the thyroid gland produces excessive amounts of cells of the thyroid gland. This disease mainly affects middle-aged and older cats, but it is easily diagnosed and if treated correctly, your cat can live a normal life.

I am an avid lover of pets and my wife and I have had several pets throughout our years. We are especially fond of dogs, and we have a 12 year old Dalmatian (our 3rd) and a “mutt” that we rescued when someone threw him away to die in a vacant field. He found us, nearly starved to death, and weighed about 2 pounds.

After severe bouts of mange and severe dehydration, and over 1,000.00 in veterinarian bills, we saved the little guys life, and he is one of the best, if not the best, dogs we have ever had and today is a muscular, fit, and firm 70 pound best friend.

After finishing my MBA, which at middle age was not easy, I decided to keep the research work ethics that I acquired, and devote about two hours each night in understanding the health benefits of supplementation for both humans and pets and how they might strengthen our, as well as our pets, immune system in a pre-emptive approach to health rather than a reactionary approach.

Both of my daughters are avid cat lovers, and asked me to help them with health concerns and challenges with their cats.

I am not a veterinarian nor claim to be, just a lover of pets that loves to research and pass on some knowledge that might be helpful, or at least stimulating to the thought process.

Several of the articles that I have written can be found on my website, Liquid Vitamins & Minerals for Humans & Pets – http://www.liquid-vitamins-minerals-humans-pets.com/

Puppy does not eat the dish, but he eats when food is on the floor?

My wife and I got a new puppy 2 weeks (almost 14 weeks old now). So far so good in terms of intrusion, games, etc., but the only thing that can not understand is their eating habits. He will not eat food from your plate, but if I spoon a little on the ground next to the plate, he'll eat. They also eat my hand, and actually eat the dish of the night 're really hungry. We tried to avoid feeding him through the floor and the hand for 1 day, then just lead to eating nothing at all. I also tried 3 different bowls and dishes. He tried to wash each with dishsoap, and also without soap (just hot water). I once managed to eat the dish after dish washing soap-free, but the next day, tried to do the same and would not eat the plate again. Ideas? We want to be strict with your diet, and prefers not to cut meat or eggs in their meal. Thank you.

Leave the bowl with food in it. Sure he knows where he is, and always have fresh water available. Do not worry "hunger" – Dogs are smarter than that. Eat at the plate when it is ready. Otherwise, go ahead and continue to make him eat off the floor. What is the problem with it?
