My younger brother, Junaid, passed away recently after one to two year battle with cancer. He died when he was in his hands Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, March 19, 2008 at 11:10 am. The whole family was at his bedside when he died. He was only 33 years.

I have not made a public statement at the time because he wanted his funeral was a family affair with little close friends and family mostly. I also need time to reflect privately and through the grieving process. Journal of my experiences since that time helped me cope.

Especially difficult to bear is the fact that just over a year in disease my brother had made a miraculous recovery after having undergone several cycles of chemotherapy, radiation and various alternative health treatments. (When Junaid was first diagnosed with fourth stage of base-of-the-tongue cancer has been given 7 months to live with less than 10% chance of survival).

Unfortunately, several months after recovery, the cancer reemerged with a vengeance. Tumor at the base of the tongue began to cultivate and eat sensitive nerves and tissues of the gums – the time it eats part of his jaw bone.

The pain was so excruciating (despite pain of all the different drugs he was en) who wanted to end his life several times. Trying to manage the pain has been a struggle consistent with frequent visits to your pain doctor. It is a horrible disease, horrible that nobody should have to pass.

I am surprised the enormous courage and inner strength my brother displayed throughout this ordeal. His dream in life was to become an actor, despite his weakness and slurred speech, remained at an audition for parts, but he stayed on several occasions rejected.

Lived and died with honor and was the most honest person I know. I am very grateful for the time she went through with my brother before his death. It is my role model and hero who taught me many valuable life lessons from their example.

One day when my brother Junaid was staying hospital, a friend of his past in our house Junaid hoping there would be. I blocked the entrance porch of protection and said that my brother had had a handful of steel when we shook hands and I immediately made an impression on that person.

More Later she told me about his downfall friend Junaid and said that seemed like a street thug. Without losing a moment, my brother was on the Trach tube in the throat his outstretched fingers and with a hoarse voice: "He lived a difficult life and has no one to love. You people love the rain – because nobody else will. "

My knees bent and almost stifled her tears. My brother was teaching me a lesson in humility and love. I was ashamed of myself for having judged someone I barely knew.

I learned that my brother had befriended with a number of people most of society has rejected, and filled with love and kindness.

This is a powerful message. I think we can all make a difference in the world by showering people with love. And do not take much. A gesture such as a neighbor. Catching someone doing some something good. Warmly welcoming a newcomer who feels out of place in a group. Visiting a sick co-worker at the hospital. Helping Hand or give encouragement to all those in need.

Shower people with love.

You know, I spent much time trying to understand exactly how to break the news to you. In my desire to honor my brother and awareness significantly, disable paralysis overwhelmed me – rendering me incapacitated and not knowing what to do.

I found the answer to my problem in the quotation from Anne Frank: "What is wonderful that nobody has to wait a while before starting to improve the world".

I am a message of Anne Frank's heart by not waiting and starting now. I volunteer for the next relay Canadian Cancer for Life to help raise funds for cancer research and support services, while celebrating cancer survivors and remember loved ones lost to cancer.

Let's make our role in making the fight against cancer so you can help save lives and prevent someone going by what my brother had to happen. Do not wait – we're going to start now!

He has set up a tribute page to honor his brother and help raise needed funds for cancer research. If you would like to make a contribution, please visit: http://www.showerpeoplewithlove.com
