Sailor Bear
Sailor Bear

In Lake Michigan at the end of the Stonington Peninsula, there are a bunch of empty beach. Part of the Hiawatha National Forest, is framed each side of private property, not readily available. To walk on the beach, however, is legal. Beyond the last cabin the beginnings of public lands, and leaves for six or seven miles. Here I would like to test my backpack ultralight and artistic skills.
I traveled a few miles the first day and explore the woods, where I ate wild blueberries for an hour. Can I set up camp behind a small ridge on the beach. I collected dry grass along the edge of the forest, which has a mattress Nice. I threw my backpack Painting very high, so the wind to keep away mosquitoes. When setting up the field, I went swimming.
This region has many crabs that look and taste like miniature lobsters. After swimming I caught a dozen under the rocks in shallow water deep, and brought to camp in a bowl of whipped cream that I found. You never know what will swim on a beach.
I boiled with hearts cattail roots and evening Primrose, in my cheap three strands oz. It was a good meal with crackers I brought. (You remove the meat the tail of the crawfish after cooking).
It was summer, so had not brought a bag sleeping. At seventeen years old Oz, the bag would not have added much to my packweight eight pounds. I just wanted to try using a nylon liner sleeping bag I had sewing (5 ounces). I got my bedding, including a hat that I made the handle of an old thermal shirt (1 ounce). I slept well and ate granola bars for breakfast.
Water was around, so I just had a plastic bottle 16-pop ounces (1 ounce) and a few iodine tablets to purify. It took a long drink before packing.
I found bear tracks Fresh on the beach. The bear came within 60 yards of where I stayed. I had a freon horn (2 ounces) it has bought after reading that people have used the cry is very likely to scare away bears. I took out. I followed the tracks for an hour, but only because I went in that direction.
I had two booths of age to study, another patch of berries that I knew, and a beach full of things you can do. The strangest item that regularly washes bulbs. Take me Home to employment. After years of searching for them, a sailor finally told me to take boats to shoot them in the water. I thought it lost.
The next day I went back. The rain I expected never came, so I could not test my Rainsuit garbage bag (2 ounces), but used successfully completed a similar one before. Overall I am satisfied with my backpack ultralight "evidence". Of course, you can go through clothing fragile and equipment when you're walking on an open beach. Oh, and I never saw the bear.
