The art of licenses may sound like American Idol ™ for art. Put your art on stage and become an overnight sensation! A road paved with wealth brilliance, sparkle and ample liquidity. When people first heard about licensing, we often hear about the rock stars of the stock market license. People who make millions of people who have become household names. Names such as Thomas Kinkade, Mary Engelbreit, Debbie Mumm, Paul Brent, Susan Winget, etc..
Often what you hear, "So-and so the art is on thousands of products each year, selling millions of dollars in retail stores and artist receives a percentage. "Well Yippee! Who would not want to do this?
But how artists get? It is hard work, dedication and perseverance that gets to learn about the industry to become a licensing rock star.
Here are three things that I recommend learning on artists license to decide whether the authorization of their art will be a good fit for your art, your lifestyle and your goals.
- Make sure you like the way work is every day. Do not throw away your pink glasses and create. Seeing the final goal is good, but if you are dissatisfied with how to get from zero to millions of people (even thousands) who probably will not come. Like any business, there are steps to take, things to do on a daily, monthly and annual progress toward your goal. Things like the creation of art collections, wondering what the manufacturers of art licensing, contact with them (or find an agent for sales and marketing side), etc.
- Start thinking about your art as an artist who licenses. Think like an artist that his art is the license change for many people. Contrary to create the art of selling in a gallery or in the work of the Commission, which requires groups or collections of holiday art, images, and not just individual. Think about the products you see in stores with art in them are considered as parts of a manufacturer must do. Benefit of products from the paper, for example. The plate may have a central image and a border around the coordinating board. Towels have a repeating pattern. The cuts have a solid color and edge to edge. So you can see some images used for invitations and decorations. So what does the artist provide the manufacturer to carry out part in this collection? What problems do you see again and again?

Quality, quantity and speed are the three keys to successful licensing. Another reason to create a dozen collections is that during this creative process, you will discover if you really like the idea and creation as an artist under license. It's not for everybody and I think there are several things you can do with the art, why not choose something you love and passion?
