The Americans call Bell ornaments, but the British are known as car mascots. Its origin dates back to the infancy of the automobile. The first cars have heaters outside of the car and plugs, radiators are mounted on the top of the grid. These early cars also tend to overheat without warning the driver, the steam out of the radiator. This led to the development of an indicator temperature which was mounted on top of the radiator cap.
Then decorations were placed on counters to improve their appearance. Thus began the life of a hood ornament. As improved technology, the radiators are mounted under hood and moved to indicators temperature of the scoreboard, but the hood ornament remains. They were very popular from the 1920s until the 1950s, but fell into disgrace.
The ornaments are usually cast in brass bell, bronze or zinc, then plated with nickel, chromium or silver. Some even see a light bulb that illuminated the night. They were generally designed to symbolize the car company or a characteristic cars that the manufacturer wants to highlight.
The hood ornament, especially in luxury cars, has quickly become a work of art and often created by artists and not the manufacturer. Today, most of them are collectors' items.

His most famous and most important is the Spirit "of" Wind Art Deco style that is ten inches long and was mounted on a Minerva, presented in the Salon de l'Automobile Paris 1928.
Probably his most infamous was the head of an eagle that has been mounted on the cars of Nazi officers during World War II. One wonders what the Nazis committed to using the symbol of freedom in the United States as its mascot, the car.
The manufacturer of the survivors of the usual pets Louis Lejeune Ltd., a brass foundry located in England. Founded in 1910 by Emil Lejeune, then continued by his son. In 1979, Sir David Hughes, a sculptor known animal heraldry and crests, bought the company and pets began to produce again. To date, he has developed a pheasant for the queen and a polo player from Prince Charles.
Help! My Honda Accord had thick gray smoke from the hood and antifreeze on the ground. What?
My 1986 Honda Accord usually works well, but yesterday I saw it was hot and I forgot him. Today, I went back after the lead and when he from a thick white smoke puffed gray under the hood and was not arrested at least 20 minutes. There is also a puddle of antifreeze on soil. I really need my car and I'm going mad! What could be??
Could be as simple as a hose or radiator exhaust pipe heater. Also check your water pump for leaks. Worst case of a blown head gasket.
